2008 All-ACC Academic Men's Cross Country Team Announced
Feb. 18, 2009 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Headed by NC State's Bobby Mack, five All-Conference honorees secured spots on the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men's Cross Country Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. The 2008 ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year for Men's Cross Country, Mack, a graduate degree student in Curriculum & Instruction/Social Studies Education, finished fourth in the ACC Championship this past fall, completing the 8K course in 24:30.9 and leading the Wolfpack to a second-place team finish. A two-time Academic All-American and a member of the ACC Honor Roll in each of the past five years, Mack also placed second at the Southeast Regional and 38th at the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. - the second-best finish by an ACC participant. Student-athletes on the team earning All-ACC honors this past fall were Mack, Boston College's Timothy Ritchie, Duke's Bo Waggoner, Florida State's Matt Leeder and Virginia Tech's Devin Cornwall. Ritchie finished second at this year's ACC Championship while Cornwall was third, Leeder seventh and Waggoner 10th. Repeaters from last year's academic honors team include Ritchie, Waggoner, Leeder, Cornwall, Clemson's Sam Bryfczynski, Virginia's Andrew Jesien and Wake Forest's Gregory Billington The 2008 All-ACC Academic Men's Cross Country Team follows.
