Four Harriers Named to Academic All-ACC Cross Country Team
Feb. 1, 2006 Winston-Salem, N.C. - Four Wake Forest cross country runners, seniors Shane Ahlers and Annie Bersagel, junior Michelle Sikes and freshman Nicole Schappert, were named to the Academic All-ACC Team as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career. Bersagel was one of 11 runners that earned both all-conference honors as well as All-Academic honors. She also was one of only three runners to also earn All-American honors at the NCAA Championship. An economics and political science double major, Bersagel earned a 4.00 GPA in the fall and has a 3.94 cumulative GPA. Ahlers, a biology major, registered a 3.24 GPA in the fall and has a 3.14 GPA for his career. Schappert, the ACC Performer of the Week for Sept. 6, recorded a 3.37 GPA in her first semester at Wake Forest. Sikes, a mathematical economics major, also recorded a perfect 4.00 GPA and has a cumulative mark of 3.94. Sikes joins Bersagel as one of 14 female runners to earn all-region and all-academic honors in 2005.
