GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Duke cross country "B" teams posted top-five
finishes at the North Carolina Collegiate Cross Country Championships on
Saturday at the Lake Kristi course in Greenville. The Duke men
finished third, while the took women sixth.
Leading the way for the Duke mens harriers was freshman Jay Champi
(Cumberland, RI) who ran a 25:02 eighth-place time. Champi
was followed by fellow freshman Brendan Wells (San Anselmo, Calif.) with
a ninth-place time of 25:02.1. Freshman Adam Perez (San Carlos,
Calif.) and junior Kyle Leonard also placed in the top 20. Perez
crossed the finish line in a time of 25:19 for 13th place and Leonard
posted a 25:27 clocking for 19th.
On the womens side, freshman Elizabeth Kruel-Starr (Raleigh, N.C.) was
Dukes top finisher, coming 14th with a time of 18:42. Freshman Heather
Ryan crossed the line in 22nd place with a time of 18:57. Senior Kim
Reynolds (Mill Valley, Calif.) ran a 19:16 for 36th place.
Duke returns to action at the ACC Championships scheduled for November
2 in Charlottesville, Va.
