Oct. 18, 2008 Tech Cross Country Runs Well at NCAA Pre-Nationals TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Georgia Tech men's and women's cross country teams ran well against some of the top teams in the nation at the NCAA Pre-National meet on Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. The men took 31st place and the women 36th, scoring 792 and 953 points respectively Seminoles Enjoy Solid Outing At NCAA Pre-Nationals Meet TERRE HAUTE, Ind. − On a perfect day for racing at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on the LaVerne Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, the Florida State men's and women's teams enjoyed solid performances across the board, but the day belonged to junior Susan Kujiken, who won the Women's 6K White Race in a course record time of 19:49.2. NC State Men’s Cross Country Finishes 10th at NCAA Pre-Nationals TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Paced by top-30 finishes from senior Bobby Mack and junior John Martinez, NC State’s men’s cross country team finished 10th in the Blue Race at the NCAA Pre-Nationals. Felnagle Takes Second Straight Individual Title TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Brie Felnagle proved once again that she is one of the top female distance runners in the country Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. as she took the NCAA Pre-National meet traversing the 6K course in 20:02.4 to take the individual title in the blue race. Lauren Holesh turned in another solid race as she finished 15th overall in a time of 20:36.0 but the duo was not enough to get Carolina into the top 10. Carolina finished 20th overall in the blue race and will look to improve on their times in two weeks at the ACC Championships in Chapel Hill on Nov. 1. NC State Women’s Cross Country Finishes 32nd at NCAA Pre-Nationals TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – With a lineup composed entirely of freshmen, NC State's women's cross country team finished 32nd out of 41 women’s teams in the Blue race at the NCAA Pre-Nationals. Emily Pritt was NC State’s leading runner, taking 61st in a time of 21:23.8 on the 6k course. Nationally Ranked Cavalier Men Finish Sixth at Pre-NCAAs TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Virginia cross country teams completed the 2008 Pre-NCAA Invitational, a preview of the championship courses to come in November, on Saturday morning. Eighty-one men’s teams and 80 women’s teams split into four races based on national rankings to compete, with Virginia’s men’s team claiming sixth-place in the Men’s 8K White Race, while the women finished 23rd in the Women’s 6K White Race. Matyus Leads Terp Women to Princeton Title PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Erin Matyus covered the 6-kilometer course in 22:02.5 to win the individual title and spark the University of Maryland to the team title in the women's race at the Princeton Invitational cross country meet on Saturday. Matyus finished over eight seconds ahead of teammate Kristin Reed to earn the individual win. Those two Terrapins led four Maryland finishers in the top 10, as Lindsay Ritchings was ninth in 22:38.6 and Angeli Sivaraman posted her best finish of the fall to place 10th at 22:40.5. Both Hokie squads earn fourth-place efforts FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Virginia Tech cross country men’s and women’s squads both earned fourth-place team finishes on Saturday at the Chile Pepper Invitational, their biggest meet thus far this season, held on the University of Arkansas Cross Country Course in Fayetteville, Ark.
UNC Men Finish First At Blue Ridge Open BOONE, N.C. - The North Carolina men's cross country team was back in action for the first time in two weeks and put the rest to good use as the Tar Heels captured the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C. Friday afternoon by a 10-point margin. Zack Dawson led the way with a fourth-place finish in a time of 24:22 edging out the duo of Adam Cunningham and Evan Watchempino who finished sixth and seventh to fuel the Tar Heel win. The Tar Heels tallied just 43 points beating out the 25 other teams, including a trio of ACC teams. Clemson Women Claim Blue Ridge Open Crown Boone, NC - Clemson's cross country teams made a return trip to Appalachian State University on Friday, this time to compete in the Blue Ridge Open. The women's team earned its third team championship of the season, having already won the Eye Opener and Delaware Invitational in September. Jenna Baker, Clemson's top runner, was once again the top performer for the Clemson women's squad. The Bellevue, OH native posted a time of 18:23 and was sixth over the 5000m course. Baker has been the team's top finisher in four straight meets.
Deacons Place Third at Penn State National UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 25th-ranked Wake Forest women's cross country team finished third of 28 squads at the Penn State National Invitational on Friday at the Blue/White Golf Course. Redshirt junior Allie Kieffer placed first for the Deacons and seventh overall with her six-kilometer time of 20:51. The men's team, led by freshman Tom Morrison's 8.4-kilometer time of 27:04, placed 27th.
