TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's and women's cross country teams took first place in the Seminole Invitational held Saturday at the Seminole Golf Course in Tallahassee, FL. The men's team, with a total of 38 points, defeated Troy State University, who finished with 80 points. The women's team outlasted Georgia State University, defeating them 55 to 61.

The men's team was led by senior Aaron Sheer. Sheer, a native of Fremont, NE, finished third with a time of 25:16.18 in the 8,000M run. Freshman Tommy Kunish finished in sixth place among collegiate competitors with a time of 25:36.65. Michael Maier, a senior from Germany, finished in eighth place with his best time at Florida State at 25:40.66. Zach Heissner finished in tenth place after beating teammate Brady Thomas by just over one second. Heissner finished with a time of 25:52.68, while Thomas came in at 25:53.87.

The women's team was led by sophomore Cynthia Campbell. Campbell, the top runner for the Lady Seminoles, recorded a time of 18:24.23 to finish in fourth place in the 5,000M run. Natalie Reid, a sophomore from Jacksonville, FL, finished in fifth place at 18:41.67. Diana Hartnup recorded a time of 18:51.90 to place 10th among collegiate competitors. Mary Gaskins and Kingsley Broughton rounded out the scoring for the Lady Seminoles with times of 19:01.15 and 19:13.53, respectively.

Michael Green of Troy State University won the men's race with a time of 24:29.51, while Vibeke Nilsen of the Florida International grabbed top honors on the women's side with a time of 17:53.03.
