Florida State Sweeps Notre Dame Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. − The Florida State men’s and women’s cross country teams downed a combined 16 nationally-ranked teams in earning a pair of victories on Friday afternoon (Oct. 3) at the prestigious Notre Dame Invitational. The women took first with a pair of top 10 individual finishes to take down 11 ranked programs while the men placed two in the top 15 and bested five ranked squads.

The women’s squad posted 88 total points to finish first in the field of 23 teams while earning victories over No. 6 Princeton, No. 10 Illinois, No. 13 Providence, No. 14 Florida, and No. 15 Michigan as well as six other ranked teams, plus four more squads that received votes in this week’s USTFCCCA coaches’ poll. Individually, the Seminoles were paced by junior Susan Kuijken who set a personal best in the 5K with a time of 16:26 to finish in second place overall. North Carolina senior Brie Felnagle won the race with a time of 16:21.

  • Cross Country Produces Solid Results at Tiger Invitational

    Auburn, AL - In what was the biggest test of the young season thus far, Clemson's cross country squads produced solid individual and team results Saturday at Auburn's Tiger Invitational. The event was held at the Indian Pines Golf Course. The men's layout was reported to be a few meters shy of a true 8,000m course, but the women's layout was right at 5000m.

    Behind the strong running of senior Sam Bryfczynski, the men's team placed fourth out of 24 schools in the 8K orange race. Auburn, ranked #21 in the latest coaches' poll, took home the men's championship with 31 points, while Washington was runner-up at 49 total points. Iowa was third with 72, while the Tigers totaled 155 and held off Georgia Tech by a single point to finish fourth.

  • Duke Women’s Cross Country Wins Murray Keatinge Invitational

    DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women’s cross country team defended its team title at the Murray Keatinge Invitational Saturday afternoon, winning the event for the second year in a row at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine.

    The Blue Devils placed all of its scorers in the top 20 individually, taking first in the field of seven teams with a score of 46 points. The Blue Devils were led by senior Molly Lehman’s fourth place finish, covering the 5K run in 18:11.34. She was followed closely by senior Amanda Patterson in fifth overall, running 18:13.05 in the field of 88 runners.

    Men's and Women's Cross Country Run to Top-Three Finishes

    TITUSVILLE, Fla. - The University of Miami men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Florida Runners Invitational presented by Nike on Friday evening, with the women placing second and the men third.

    Freshman Anna Bona led the way for the women with an 11th place finish with a time of 19:08. Sophomore transfer Emma Steppe continued her strong season with a 13th place finish at 19:23. Tampa, Fla. native Page Price was the third Hurricane runner to cross the line with a time of 19:34. Sophomore Katharine Woodard was the fourth Miami runner to finish under 20 minutes on the 5K course, with a time of 19:54.

    Wake Forest Finishes Fourth at Bill Dellinger Invite

    EUGENE, Ore. - Wake Forest upset No. 23 Brigham Young en route to a fourth-place finish at the Bill Dellinger Invitational, hosted by top-ranked Oregon. Redshirt junior Allie Kieffer was the first Deacon to cross the finish line at the Springfield Country Club 6-kilometer course with a time of 20:44.32.

    With a time of 21:31.25, freshman Anna Nosenko grabbed the second-place finish for the Deacons and 19th-overall.

    Wake Forest's Billington Captures Title at Lehigh Invitational

    BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Sophomore Greg Billington captured his first career title at the Brooks Paul Short Run with a final time of 25:21, beating out a field of 270 participants. Wake Forest placed sixth of 41 teams in the Men's White Division 8K Brooks Paul Short Run at Lehigh University's Goodman campus.

    Freshman Tom Morrison also earned a top-10 finish with his time of 26:01. Paul Loeser came in third for the Deacons with a time of 26:53, placing 36th overall.

    Cavaliers Sweep Second-Consecutive Competition at Mason Invite

    CENTREVILLE, Va. - Led by fourth-year Lauretta Dezubay’s second-consecutive individual title and second-year Emil Heineking’s first-ever collegiate victory, Virginia’s men’s and women’s cross country teams swept the George Mason Invitational on Saturday morning at Bull Run Park. The race marks the second of the season for Virginia and the second sweep of competition under first-year head coach Jason Vigilante this year.

    The Cavalier men, ranked 12th nationally, tallied 19 points with a total time of 2:04:20 to lead 16 teams and finish ahead of runner-up Columbia, which collected 50 points and a total time of 2:05:31.00. The women also edged Columbia, earning 30 points on a total time of 1:49:34.00 to lead 16 teams. The Lions collected 41 points and a time of 1:50:25.00 for second.

    Fanning, Cornwall take first place at Highland Duel

    Valle Crucis, N.C.- Virginia Tech’s cross country squads swept the men’s and women’s races at the Highland Duel in Valle Crucis, N.C., Friday night, as senior Tasmin Fanning won the women’s race and junior Devin Cornwall placed first in the men’s competition. The meet was hosted by Queens University at Charlotte at McRae’s Meadow.

    Fanning led the women’s team, finishing the three-mile race in 16:54 for her second victory in a row. The Charlottesville, Va., native won the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Sept. 19.
