Clemson Women Second, Men Fourth at Cavalier Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Clemson women's cross country team placed second with 62 points while the Tiger men placed fourth with 89 points at the Cavalier Invitational in Charlottesville on Saturday. Virginia won the 5K women's race with 39 points, while Georgetown won the 8K men's race with 58 points.

Junior Beth Ahern led the Tiger women, placing third with a time of 18:09.70. Juniors Julianne Littman and Shannon Schoppman placed 12th and 13th, with times of 18:32.90 and 18:35.60, respectively. Sophomore Jennifer Meador finished the race in 18:36.00 to place 14th.

Junior Erika Van Reenen placed 20th with a time of 18:54.50, while sophomore Jessica Hyams was 28th with a time of 19:46.50. Senior Brantley Epps finished the course in 20:04.10, placing 40th, and freshman Abbey Hartman placed 44th with a time of 20:24.40.

On the men's side, senior Joe Gibson placed fourth with a time of 25:16.10 to lead the Tigers. Senior Esteban Diaz and freshman Jason Meany also placed in the top 20. Diaz was 16th, finishing the race in 26:08.40, while Meany placed 18th with a time of 26:11.60. Freshman Ryan Demers placed 24th with a time of 26:32.90.

Freshman B.J. Dillard placed 31st with a time of 26:49.00, while junior Jason Putnam was 39th, finishing in 27:03.80. Junior Steve Alexander placed 46th with a time of 27:23.00, and senior Matt Tooman was 49th, finishing in 27:32.30.

Clemson's men's and women's teams will return to action at the Notre Dame Invitational on October 2.
