Tar Heels Open Season With Strong Showings At UNC Challenge

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina men's and women's cross country teams started their seasons on a strong note on Saturday in Chapel Hill at the UNC Challenge. The men took first place as newcomer Evan Watchempino captured the overall title traversing the 8K course in 25:50.32. The women were led by Lauren Holesh in their 5K event as the junior clocked in at 18:05.00 to claim the overall title as the Tar Heels edged out Wake Forest for the team title.

The Wake Forest women's cross country team won both of its dual matchups today at the UNC Challenge. Defeating North Carolina and Campbell, the Deacons earned three of the top five overall finishes. The men's team placed fourth in the meet.

Hurricane Men Win UCF Invitational, Women Take Second

ORLANDO - For the first time this season the University of Miami cross country teams took to the road, at Saturday's UCF Black and Gold Invitational. Senior Ryan Woodlee led the men to victory in the 8K race, as he finished first overall with a time of 27:22.71. For the second straight meet, the women's top finisher was sophomore Emma Steppe.

Lundy Leads Terp Runners at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Sophomore Alex Lundy finished second individually to lead the University of Maryland to a third-place finish as a team Saturday at the Navy Invitational men's cross country meet held at the U.S. Naval Academy.

The Terrapins finished third in the women's team standings in the Salty Dog Invitational, and were led to the line by junior Kristen Reed, who was fifth overall.

Men, Women Dominate Both Wolfpack Cross Country Invite

RALEIGH, N.C. - Even with several key performers running unattached, NC State's men and women had no trouble scoring perfect scores of 15 in the Wolfpack Invite, held Friday at the Wake Med Soccer Park's cross country course.

Fifth-year senior Fredy Torres officially was credited with winning the men's race, although a group of four runners all came across the finish line with identical times in the 5k race of 15:21. On the women's side, five NC State true freshmen were the first to cross the finish line, led by Emily Pritt in 18:31.
