Duke Cross Country Teams Sweep Fordham Invitational Titles

NEW YORK - The Duke cross country teams swept the overall team titles at the 1999 Fordham Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park. The men's finished first of 11 squads, while the women were first of 12 teams.

The Duke men captured the victory by sweeping the second through seventh spots in the top 10 with senior Charlie Kelly being the top Duke finisher with a time of 25:42 followed by sophomore Sean Kelly with a third-place time of 25:51.

In the women's race, freshman harrier Sheela Agrawal took top honors in her first-ever collegiate race with time of 18:04. Agrawal's teammate and 1998 NCAA Cross Country Championship competitor, junior Megan Sullivan, took second place in a time of 18:28 to help the Blue Devils earn the victory.

Both Blue Devil harrier squads return action on Saturday, Sept. 25 with a pair of meets. Each squad will send a contingent to the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., while some Duke runners will compete locally at the Greensboro Invitational.
