Sept. 6, 2008 UVa Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Win Lou Onesty Invitational CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Despite the effects of Hurricane Hanna, Virginia’s men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their seasons Saturday morning at Panorama Farms with matching victories. In head coach Jason Vigilante’s first appearance with the Cavaliers, both squads swept the top-three spots, while also claiming fifth. Third-year Trey Miller (Winston-Salem, N.C.) claimed first place for the men’s team, finishing the 8K race with a time of 24:53.80 to win his first-ever collegiate race. Sixth-year Ryan Foster (Stephens City, Va.) took second for Virginia in 24:56.88 and third-year Graham Tribble (Columbia, S.C.) crossed a second later, in 24:57.70, to lead the Cavaliers to a sweep of the top-three positions. Clemson Cross Country Teams Win 25th Annual Eye Opener Saturday Spartanburg, SC - Clemson's cross country teams ran strategically in groups Saturday at the 25th annual Eye Opener, and won both men's and women's team competitions as a result of their tight splits between the top five finishers. The women's team cruised to a first-place showing over in-state rival South Carolina, while the men edged Elon by one point to take home the title. The women's team won its 5000m team competition after the Tigers' top five finishers placed sixth through 10th. The split amongst the top five for Clemson was just three seconds on the women's side. Women Place First in Hokies' Season-Opening Race BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s cross country squad won the Virginia Tech Cross Country Relay on Friday at the Tech Cross Country Course, to open the 2008 campaign for both the men's and women's squads. Each runner was paired up with another and ran two legs of 3,000-meters and 4,000-meters for the women and men respectively. The top three tandems across the line for each squad counted for team scoring. Miami Women Win Greentree Invitational, Men Third CORAL GABLES - The University of Miami cross country teams competed in their first event of the season as they hosted the Greentree Invitational at Tropical Park Friday evening. Sophomore Emma Steppe led the women to victory, while senior Ryan Woodlee was the top finisher for the men's team. Steppe was the third collegiate runner to cross the finish line and the fifth overall with a time of 20:01.67 in the women's 5K race. Tech Cross Country Falls To Georgia In Season Opener ATHENS, Ga. - - The Georgia Tech men's and women's cross country teams fell to Georgia in the season opening Georgia-Georgia Tech Dual meet Thursday evening in Athens, Ga. Tech freshman Mary Kate DuBard opened her collegiate campaign by finishing third in the women's individual 3200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes and 17 second, just six seconds off the winning pace of Georgia All-American Natalia Picchetti.
