Carolina standout Laura Gerraughty, fresh off her title at the U.S. Olympic Trials, was triumphant again Saturday, taking first place in the women's shot put at the third annual North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Track & Field Championships in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. The meet, which is held every two years, pits young athletes (under age 23) from NACAC member nations against one another.
Gerraughty bested Olympic teammate Jillian Camarena of Stanford in the five-woman field with a heave of 56'10".
Gerraughty will now focus her attention on Athens. The track and field competition will begin on August 18 with the men's and women's shot put.
