Justin Ryncavage was ranked the No. 1 high-schooler in the nation in the javelin before coming to Carolina

University of North Carolina sophomore Justin Ryncavage won the silver medal in the men's javelin at the 2003 Pan American Junior Championships in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Ryncavage placed second with a toss of 68.30m/224-1. The toss was a personal best for Ryncavage in javelin competition. Ryncavage helped the United States win 48 medals, the most of any country at the July 18-20 event.

He had qualified for the Games by winning the 2003 Junior National Title in June with a throw of 211-1.

The Wilkes Barre, Pa. native was also a 2002 Verizon Junior National All-America and finished second at the 2002 Junior Nationals with a throw of 201-6.
