Four members of the University of North Carolina men's and women's track and field teams were named to the 2006 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic teams, the organization announced recently. Laura Gerraughty, Georgia Kloss and Rhian Jenks were named to the women's team, while Ian Reynolds represented the Tar Heels on the men's side.

The USTFCCCA honors individuals and teams for their academic and athletic accomplishments during the indoor and outdoor track seasons. To qualify for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and must have met the NCAA Division I regional or national qualifying standard in his or her event.

Gerraughty, the 2006 NCAA champion in the outdoor shot put, was one of six recent champions to make the women's team. The Nashua, N.H., native was also recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team for the third straight season.

Kloss was an All-America performer in the indoor 800 meters and one of the members of UNC's NCAA champion distance medley relay. The Atlanta native was also a national qualifier in the outdoor 800.

Jenks, a native of Fort Lee, Va., was recently named to the ACC All-Academic team and was a national qualifier in the pole vault.

Reynolds, who hails from Skillman, N.J., was also a recent member of the ACC All-Academic team and a regional qualifier in the outdoor shot put.
