UNC alum LaTasha Colander won the women's 100-meter dash Saturday at the United States Olympic Team Trials in Sacramento with a time of 10.97. With the victory, Colander will travel to Athens as part of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team. Colander will be joined by runner-up Torri Edwards and third-place finisher Lauryn Williams.

Former Tar Heel Marion Jones had the second-fastest time in the semifinal heats, but finished fifth in the final and failed to make the team in the 100. Jones, who won the gold medal in the 100 at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, will still attempt to qualify in the 200 and the long jump.

In the women's high jump, former Carolina student-athlete Tisha Waller advanced to the finals with a best jump of 5 feet, 11.5 inches. Twelve other competitors matched Waller's height, setting up a 13-woman final.

Current Tar Heel Alice Schmidt finished 11th in the women's 800 semifinals with a time of 2:03.98. The top four runners in each of two heats advanced to the finals. Schmidt finished sixth in her heat.
