Five Tar Heels Named To All-ACC Academic Track And Field Teams
July 7, 2006 GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina seniors Pablo Durana and Sheena Gordon, juniors Georgia Kloss and Rhian Jenks, and sophomore Ian Reynolds were named to the inaugural All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Track and Field Teams, the league office announced Friday. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career. Durana, one of Carolina's top male distance runners, is the only Tar Heel to make the All-ACC Academic teams in both track and cross country. The Montreal native was named to USA Today's 2005 All-USA College Academic First Team. Gordon was one of three individual NCAA champions to make the women's team. The Erie, Pa., native was the indoor champion in the high jump. Gordon followed that with a runner-up finish at the outdoor championships. Kloss was the only woman named to the team to win an NCAA title as part of a relay team. The Atlanta native joined Megan Kaltenbach, Danielle Rodgers and Brie Felnagle to claim the distance medley title during the indoor season. Kloss was also an All-America performer in the indoor 800 meters. Jenks is a former ACC champion pole vaulter and UNC's top female vaulter for the last two seasons. The Fort Lee, Va., product claimed the ACC crown at the 2005 outdoor meet and has been an NCAA regional qualifier each of her three years. Reynolds, a transfer from Dartmouth, has emerged as one of Carolina's top competitors in the shot put. After sitting out the 2004-05 school year due to NCAA regulations, Reynolds was sixth in the shot at the ACC indoor meet and eighth at the outdoor meet this year.
