Track & Field Places Eight on 2006 All-ACC Academic Team
July 7, 2006 Raleigh, N.C. - A total of eight members from the NC State men's and women's track & field squads have been named to the 2006 All-ACC Academic Team announced this week by the Atlantic Coast Conference. Five members of the men's team and three members from the women's team were honored by the conference. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. Senior John Henderson (Hendersonville, N.C.) was joined by sophomores John Crews (Glasgow, Va.), Stephen Furst (Goshen, N.Y.), Chris Kollar (Strongsville, Ohio) and Tibor Vegh (Szekesfehervar, Hungary) on the men's all-academic team. Crews and Kollar each earned All-ACC honors with their performances at the 2006 ACC Outdoor Championships, Crews was second in the 10,000 meters and Kollar placed second in the 1,500 meters. Crews also earned All-ACC honors during the indoor season in the 5,000 meters. Senior Ginger Wheeler (Winston-Salem, N.C.), junior Jemissa Hess (Manassas, Va.) and sophomore Jennifer Boyd (Chesapeake, Va.) were the members of the NC State women's team that made the all-academic team. In her first season since transferring to NC State, Hess earned All-America honors during the indoor season in the 3,000 meters.
