![]() Kloss Named Academic All-America
June 28, 2007
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Georgia Kloss earned All-America honors four times during her career on North Carolina's track and field and cross country teams. Now she has claimed one more All-America honor, this time recognizing her work in the classroom. A May graduate of UNC, Kloss has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team for women's track and field and cross country, announced Wednesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Kloss majored in art history and completed her studies with a 3.8 grade point average. She is from Atlanta and attended Pace Academy. "When I recruited her out of high school, I thought she'd be really good, but I didn't know she'd be as great as she has been," said UNC track and field coach Dennis Craddock. "She's been an All-American, been on a national championship relay team and set an American record. She's been a great leader for us as a captain and a great student, too. You could not ask for a better young lady to represent your school or your team." Kloss is a four-time All-America honoree and three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection. She was a member of the Distance Medley Relay team that set an American record at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in March while winning a second consecutive NCAA title. As part of UNC's DMR team, she was named to the NCAA's Silver Anniversary Indoor Track and Field Team. A team captain in her junior and senior years, she earned Dean's List and ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition in each year of her college career and was selected for the Athletic Director's Scholar Athlete Award as a senior. She participated in the Carolina Leadership Academy, earning the organization's highest leadership honor, the Three-Dimensional Leader (3-DL) Award. To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must carry a grade point average of at least 3.2 and be a starter or key reserve on a varsity squad. Kloss earned Academic All-District honors, making her a candidate for the Academic All-America team. 2006-07 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams
