With a second-place finish at the 2003 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif., former Duke standout Jillian Schwartz has qualified for the World Championships.

Schwartz finished second at the national championships with a mark of 14'5.25" and qualified for the 2003 World Track & Field Championships, which will take place Aug. 22-31 in Paris, France.

"With Brent Warner earning All-America honors in Sacramento and Jillian Schwartz making the World Championships team in Palo Alto, it was a great seven days for the Duke University vault program," said Duke director of track and field Norm Ogilvie.

Warner, a junior from Wadsworth, Ohio, earned All-America honors in the men's pole vault at the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 13 in Sacramento, Calif.

Schwartz, a three-time All-America selection and four-time All-ACC honoree, holds the Duke records for both indoor (13'5.25") and outdoor pole vault (14'2"). A 2001 Duke graduate, she was the only Blue Devil named to the ACC 50th Anniversary Women's Indoor Track & Field Team.
