![]() Wake Forest's Brent LaRue and North Carolina's Brie Felnagle Named 2008-09 ACC Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athletes of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – 2008-09 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Scholar Athletes of the year Brent LaRue and Brie Felnagle headline the All-ACC Indoor Track and Field Academic Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford. On the men’s team, 41 student-athletes were named to the team while 43 made the women’s squad representing all 12 member institutions. To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be in their third or fourth year of competition and have a 3.00 grade point average over their career and over the last two semesters. Nominees are then judged by a committee looking 60% at academic performance and 40% at athletic achievement. Wake Forest’s LaRue is a senior from Kernersville, N.C. who finished third in the Heptathlon at this year’s league Championship and second in the 60m Hurdles. He is majoring in Health and Exercise Science and a three-time deans list honoree. The Deacon has also been named twice to the ACC Honor Roll. LaRue holds three school records and has earned All-ACC honors each of the last three seasons. North Carolina’s Felnagle is a senior distance runner from Tacoma, Washington. She is a career three-time NCAA Champion across all disciplines as well as an ACC Champion this year in the 3000m. She took her 12th All-American finish at this year’s NCAA Indoor Championships with a fifth place showing in the Mile. Majoring in Communication Studies, Felnagle is a two-time dean’s list member and the 2008-09 UNC Athletic Director Scholar-Athlete Award Winner for Women’s Track. A total of 84 student-athletes were honored on the All-ACC Academic Indoor Track and Field Teams. Eleven earned an ACC title this year and 23 claimed All-ACC honors. Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech led the women’s team with six selections each. Clemson had five honorees, followed by Boston College and Georgia Tech with four selections. Duke and NC State placed three on the team while Miami and Wake Forest had two honorees. Maryland and Virginia rounded out the team with one selection each. Duke and Florida State led the men’s squad with seven selections each, followed by Georgia Tech with five and Maryland with four honorees. North Carolina, NC State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest had three selections followed by Boston College and Clemson with two. Miami and Virginia rounded out the team with one honoree each.
