Four Track and Field Athletes and Four Coaches Earn USTFCCCA Regional Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Four ACC track and field student-athletes along with four coaches earned USTFCCCA regional honors for the 2008 outdoor track season. Clemson's Travis Padgett (Southeast; track), Florida State's Hannah England (South; track), Virginia Tech's Queen Harrison (Southeast; track) and Miami's Khadija Talley (Southeast; field) earned Performer of the Year honors for their respective regions and events.

Florida State's Bob Braman earned South Region men's track coach of the year honors while Virginia Tech's Dave Cianelli earned the same for the women's Southeast Region. Florida State's Karen Harvey and Virginia Tech's Lawrence Johnson earned Assistant Coach of the Year honors for the women's South and Southeast regions, respectively.


Virginia Tech's Harrison named Region Track Performer of the Year

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Queen Harrison was named the USTFCCCA's Southeast Region Track Performer of the Year as the No. 4 Virginia Tech women's track & field team earned three Southeast Region Awards, the organization announced Monday. Director of Track & Field Dave Cianelli was named the region's Women's Head Coach of the Year, while Lawrence Johnson was named the Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.

Harrison set NCAA East Regional Championship records in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles to take first place in both events with school-record efforts of 12.70 and 54.69 seconds, respectively. Harrison also won the 400-meter hurdle title at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships and was the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles. The Richmond, Va., native owns the nation's fastest 400-meter hurdle time heading into the NCAA Championships.


Clemson's Padgett Named Southeast Region Track Athlete-of-the-Year

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Travis Padgett of Clemson was named Southeast Region Track Athlete-of-the-Year on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA). He is the second athlete from Clemson honored for the 2007-08 season by the coaches. Mitch Greeley was cited as the region's indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Year in March.

The list of honors for the junior from Shelby, NC continues to grow. In April, he claimed his third consecutive ACC championship in the 100m dash. He was also fourth in the 200m dash and led the Tigers to a runner-up team finish. After the conclusion of the meet, he was named Most Valuable Track Performer. He also received this honor after the conference indoor meet in February.


Miami's Khadija Talley Named Southeast Region Field Performer of the Year

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - University of Miami's Khadija Talley has been named the NCAA Southeast Region Field Performer of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The senior from Columbus, Ga. recently qualified for the NCAA National Championships in both the discus and the shot put. Her season best throw of 57.10m (187-4) in the discus broke her own school record and currently ranks her fourth nationally. She also finished second at the NCAA East Regionals in the shot put with a career-best mark of 17.02m (55-10.25).
