April 30, 2007 Clemson's Bell Records Season-Best Triple Jump at Penn Relays Philadelphia, PA - The men's track & field team concluded its action at the 113th Penn Relays on Saturday. The Tigers' Jason Bell posted a regional-qualifying mark in the triple jump, while the 4x100m relay team also surpassed the regional standard in their final. Corey Brown finished fifth in the finals of the 100m dash, giving the Tigers consecutive top-five finishes in the event. Travis Padgett won the crown last season as a freshman. Brown posted a time of 10.57 seconds Saturday. Mamona Leads Lady Tigers at Penn Relays Philadelphia, PA - The women's track & field team wrapped up day two of competition at the rain-soaked, lightning-delayed 113th running of the prestigious Penn Relays. The meet, held at historic Franklin Field, was delayed on more than one occasion due to severe weather. Patricia Mamona tied the second-best triple jump mark in school history with a leap of 43'0.5" on Friday. She placed fourth overall with her personal best effort. Only former NCAA All-American Gisele Oliveira ranks ahead of her on the Lady Tigers' all-time performance list in the triple jump. Nakeisha Wineglass had a mark of 38'2" in the collegiate-level flight of the triple jump. Duke Record Falls On Final Day Of Penn Relays PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- The 113th Penn Relays wrapped up on Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa., with events being run all day at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The women's 4x800 meter relay team of sophomore Michelle Seibert, freshman Kate Van Buskirk, senior Elizabeth Wort and freshman Emily Sherrard broke the school record with their time of 8:41.96. That mark also qualified them for the ECAC Championships and placed them ninth at the Penn Relays. Florida State Men Take Second Championship At Penn Relays Tallahassee, FL - The Seminole men made history once again at the 112th running of the Penn Relays on Saturday as the 4x200m relay team won the second Championship of America title in two days. Seniors Greg Bolden and Ronald Wright, sophomore Tywayne Buchanan and junior Ricardo Chambers added the second Championship of America title in Florida State history for the men's program after winning the 4x200m in 1:21.73. Field Athletes Lead Georgia Tech Men on Day Three of Penn Relays PHILADELPHIA - Jerome Miller placed third in the men's high jump championship with an NCAA Regional mark of 7 feet, 1 inch to pace Georgia Tech on the final day of the Penn Relays. Sophomore Charles Rohling finished the men's hammer throw college division in 19th place with a mark of 168 feet, 4 inches. Terps Third in 4x400 At Penn Relays COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Competition at Franklin Field in Philadelphia concluded Saturday evening, wrapping up the 2007 Penn Relays. University of Maryland track and field had several individual standouts in the final day of events. The Terrapins' 4x400 relay team on the men's side highlighted Maryland's performances Saturday. Junior Earl Gray, freshman Jeremy Samuels, sophomore Kyle Rauser, and junior Sean Lowe took third in the IC4A section of the relay event. The squad finished with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:11.74. Hurricanes Finish Fifth in 4x400 "Championship of America" PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Miami women's 4x400-meter relay team came in fifth place in the "Championship of America" to close out competition Saturday at the 113th Penn Relays held at historic Franklin Field. The UM 4x400 relay team of freshman Kristy Whyte , senior Ginou Etienne, sophomore Ena Leufroy and sophomore Krista Simkins crossed with a time of 3:38.19 to place fifth overall. Ryncavage Makes It Back-To-Back Javelin Crowns At Penn Relays PHILADELPHIA --- North Carolina only had four athletes in action Saturday at the Penn Relays, but all four turned in stellar performances for the Tar Heels on one of the sport's biggest stages. The highlight of the day for UNC came when senior Justin Ryncavage, the 2006 national champion in the javelin, claimed his second straight title in the college men's javelin throw championship at the legendary meet. Ryncavage launched a 231-1 toss to take the event win, beating runner-up Matt Maloney from Tennessee by just more than two feet. Ryncavage also owns a Penn Relays title from his high school days. Sophomore Adam Montague also turned in an impressive outing in the event, throwing 224-9 to place fourth, giving Carolina two-top five finishers. White Wins Discus At Penn Relays PHILADELPHIA --- Jocelyn White's crown in the championship division of the women's discus highlighted day two at the Penn Relays for the North Carolina men's and women's track teams. White posted a 171-6 toss to claim the title in the event, improving upon her runner-up finish at the meet last year. Her mark edged the throw by Purdue's Astin Steward by three inches as the two were the only competitors to top 170-feet. Riana Lynn finished eighth in the event for the Tar Heels, recording a 153-10 heave. NC State Track and Field Competes at Penn Relays Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State track and field squads traveled to one of the top track meets of the outdoor season this weekend, the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The men's team brought home a total of three NCAA Regional qualifying times, one in the 5,000 meters and two in the steeplechase. Tibor Vegh brought home a fourth place showing in the 5,000 meters, running a 14:01.19. In the steeplechase, John Martinez was sixth in 9:03.39, while Gavin Coombs was close behind in seventh (9:06.50). Martinez notched his fourth NCAA Regional qualifying time of the season, while Coombs posted his second. Cavaliers Take Second at Penn Relays The Virginia women's 4x200 m relay team took second at the Penn Relays today, running a 1:37.71. The Cavaliers finished just behind champion Connecticut, who ran a 1:36.14. In addition, the women's 4x800m relay team qualified for the ECAC meet, which will be held at Princeton May 10-12. Running today for Virginia in the 3200m relay were Ariane Sloan, Susan Brooks, Danielle Light, Huma Husain, while in the 800m relay Janne'a Bridgeford, Tomika Ferguson, Tiffany Roberts and Talia Wise competed for the Cavaliers. Virginia will look to qualify more student-athletes for the NCAA and ECAC/IC4A meets next weekend as the team competes at the Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto. Virginia's Janine Ricci competed in the steeplechase there in March and ran the nation's fastest time to date at that competition. Virginia Tech Update from the Penn Relays PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Virginia Tech women's sprint crew continued their competition at the Penn Relays on Friday and Saturday. Kristi Castlin ran a 13.22 in the 100m hurdles to finish third in her heat and fourth overall on Friday. She took seventh in the championship race on Saturday in a time of 13.70. Track and Field Wraps up Penn Relays Members of the Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams were in Philadelphia on Saturday for the final day of the 113th annual Penn Relays. The men's 4x200-meter relay team placed sixth in the meet's "Championship of America." After qualifying for the finals of the event on Friday, the team of Kevin Marion, Eric Seely, Tyler Dodds and Jonathan Reid ran a time of 1:24.58 on Saturday.
