Ciara Simms and Nikita Kirillov Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech freshman Ciara Simms and Georgia Tech freshman Nikita Kirillov have been named the ACC Track & Field Performers of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Simms won the 100 meters at the Miami Hurricane Invitational in 11.68 and finished tied for second in the 200 meters (23.96). Both times rank in the top ten on Tech’s all-time performance list and sit in the top five in the NCAA East Region in 2012. The Stockbridge, Ga., native also ran the first leg of the winning 4x100 meter relay.
Kirillov broke a school record in the pole vault that had stood for 18 years. The native of Atlanta, Ga., beat the previous mark, set by Jamie Traylor in 1994, by more than eight inches. He now has set both the indoor and outdoor pole vault school records in his freshman season. At the Georgia Intercollegiate Invite, he cleared 17-3.5, the second-best height in the NCAA so far this year.
