Feb. 19, 2013
GREENSBORO, N.C. – A pair of record-setting milers have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Performers of the Week heading into this week’s ACC Championship meet at Blacksburg, Va.
NC State’s Ryan Hill has been named the ACC Men’s Performer of the Week, while Boston College’s Jillian King claimed Women’s Performer of the Week honors. It marks the second time this season that each runner has been cited.
Hill broke a 39-year-old ACC record with a time of 3:54.89 in the mile run at last weekend’s 106th Millrose games, bettering the time of 3:55 by North Carolina’s Tony Waldrop that had stood since 1974. Hill’s time was the fourth-fastest ever by a collegian and broke his own NC State record of 3:58.33, which he set in 2012. The Hickory, N.C., native owns the ACC’s fastest times in the mile, 3000-meter and 5,000-meter runs this season.
King ran the sixth-fastest women’s mile time in the nation this season and set a Boston College school record with a time of 4:34.14 in the Boston University Meet on Feb. 14. King, of Scotia, N.Y., bested her sister Caroline’s previous school record of 4:36.
The 2013 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Thursday through Saturday at Rector Field House on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. Please see the link below for more information. http://theacc.co/ITFChamps
