Feb. 17, 2007 Duke's Lewellen Continues Weekend Success As Four Blue Devils Hit Postseason Marks BLACKSBURG, Va. --- Duke's Indoor Track and Field team completed its regular season on Saturday at the Virginia Tech Challenge. It was the second meet of the year for Duke in Blacksburg, Va., as they competed in the Virginia Tech Opener on Jan. 12-13. Women's: Senior Debra Vento competed in the high jump on Saturday afternoon and tied her season best height of 5'-10.0." That mark not only re-qualified Vento for the ECAC championships, but is an NCAA provisional qualifying height as well. Vento placed second at the Virginia Tech Challenge in the event. Williams, Aluko Spark Terps' Track Performances BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Chanel Williams posted the second-fastest women's 55-meter hurdles mark in University of Maryland history Saturday, while junior Toni Aluko had a career-best in the women's triple jump to lead Terrapin performances in the Virginia Tech Challenge indoor track and field meet held at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House. The meet was the final tuneup for next weekend's Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships and showed that the Terrapins are ready. Highlighting the Maryland men's performances, junior Dominic Berger posted a mark of 6.55 in the 55-meter dash and followed with a meet-best 7.37 in the prelims of the 55-meter hurdles, while football wide receiver Danny Oquendo stepped onto the track and posted the Terps' fourth-best mark ever in the hurdles at 7.62 seconds. Tar Heels Wrap Up Final Day At VT Challenge BLACKSBURG, VA. --- In their final tune-up before the ACC Indoor Championships, athletes from North Carolina's men's and women's track and field teams turned in some impressive performances on the last day of the Virginia Tech Challenge held at Rector Field House. The Carolina women received strong showings both on the track and in the field. A season-best performance from freshman Callie Pottinger in the women's 400 meters (55.87) gave her third place in the event for the Tar Heels. NC State Track Warms Up For Next Weeks ACC Championships Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State track and field teams went up to Virginia Tech and competed in the Virginia Tech Challenge. The meet was the final tune-up for the Pack before next weekends Indoor ACC Championships at Clemson, S.C. Freshman sprinter A'Tolani Akinkuotu had an impressive showing in the 55 meters. Akinkuotu reached a NCAA Provisional mark by wining the race with a time of 6.20. That time was good enough for a facility record at Virginia Tech, and was just 0.03 off the NC State school record. Virginia Tech's Eradiri, Berlin set school records at VT Challenge BLACKSBURG, Va. - It was an afternoon of personal-bests for the Hokies' track and field team on Saturday at their own Virginia Tech Challenge, a meet featuring over 20 schools that served as Tech's final tune-up before next weekend's ACC Indoor Championships. The mile run kicked the day off for the Hokies at a blistering pace. Tasmin Fanning won the women's race in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:40.66, which was just .20 seconds shy of the school record, and .66 seconds shy of Tech's first NCAA automatic qualifying mark of the season. The time also ranks as the second-best in the ACC, and seventh-best in the nation this season. Jessica Fanning (4th - 4:50.26), Natalie Sherbak (6th - 4:53.33) and Kelly Clark (7th - 4:56.80) also eclipsed the five-minute mark. Wake Forest Track and Field Wraps Up the Weekend at Virginia Tech Challenge The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams were in Blacksburg, Va., on Saturday competing in the second and final day of compeition from the Virginia Tech Challenge. The meet served as the final tuneup before the ACC Indoor Championships next weekend. Highlighting the day's performances was junior Michael Bingham who improved on his seasonal-best performance in the 200-meter dash. His time of 21.29 was good for second place at the meet and just six hundredths of a second off an NCAA-provisionally qualifying mark. The mark is still the second-best time in the conference thus far in the season.
