Carolina Classic A Stage For North Carolina's Kaltenbach, Felnagle

CHAPEL HILL --- Megan Kaltenbach achieved an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 3,000 meters, and Brie Felnagle won two events, finished fourth in another, and improved upon an NCAA provisional time of her own as the North Carolina men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Carolina Classic Friday.

Kaltenbach clocked a 9:25.17 in the 3,000 meters to win the event title. Her time earned her a provisional qualification for the NCAA Championships and gave her a top-20 time in the nation this year. Addie Bracy, Laura Cummings and Morgan Stengel finished two-three-four to give UNC the top four finishers in the event.

NC State's Pope Once Again Sets School Record

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State track and field squads were back in action this weekend, sending its sprinters and field eventers to compete at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill. The Wolfpack was very successful in Friday's meet, as two different athletes either broke or tied their own school records.

Mitchell Pope once again broke the school record in the shot put. Pope, who earlier this season broke a school record that stood since 1977, established a new NC State record with a heave of 64'08.75", which was more than six inches better than his previous best. That mark is another NCAA automatic mark, and is currently the third best nationally during the indoor season. Pope was also second in the weight throw with a toss of 57'11.25"

Wake Forest's Sikes Shines at Carolina Classic

The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams were in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Saturday for the Carolina Classic, a one-day meet on the campus of the University of North Carolina.

A week after breaking the school record in the 3,000-meter run, senior Michelle Sikes turned in one of the nation's top performances in the mile. The Lakewood, Ohio, native ran an NCAA provisionally-qualifying time of 4:44.83 on Saturday to finish second in the race behind North Carolina's Brie Felnagle. Sikes' time was the second fastest in the ACC this season as well as the 12th best in the nation. Finishing third in the race was junior Caitlin Chrisman in a time of 5:05.06.

Clemson's Greeley Leads Tiger Effort on Saturday at Tyson Invitational

Fayetteville, AR - The Tiger track & field team wrapped up the final day of competition at the Tyson Invitational on Saturday. Mitch Greeley, a junior from Rock Hill, SC, headlined the Tigers' efforts on the second day of competition. He finished runner-up in the pole vault and improved on his school record in that event.

Greeley cleared 17'8.5" on his first try, which is the best clearance ever for the 2006 indoor All-American. He tried to clear 18' for the first time in his career, but was unable to do so with three attempts. Greeley's mark is a strong NCAA provisional qualifying effort.

Duke's Rowbury Records Fastest Mile In NCAA This Season

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Shannon Rowbury ran a school record 4:34.94 mile on Friday at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Rowbury's time was an NCAA automatic qualifying mark and the fastest mile in the NCAA this season.

Liz Wort and Maddie McKeever also had strong efforts in the mile. Wort ran a 4:44.64 to record an NCAA provisional mark, while McKeever's 4:51.62 mile was good for an ECAC qualifier.

Florida State Gets The Job Done On Final Day Of Tyson Invite

Competition at the Tyson Invite comes to an end with the Seminoles taking care of what they came to do by qualifying two automatically and seven provisionally for nationals.

It was a big day for the women as senior Alyce Williams (Palm Coast, FL) posted a personal best mark of 43'0.25" in the women's triple jump to place first overall. The jump also provisionally qualifies Williams for nationals and moves her to the top of the conference.

Georgia Tech's Cave, Lemons Lead Tech on Day Two of Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Elena Linn set a personal- and team season-best time in the women's 3,000-meter run to lead the men's and women's track and field teams on day two of the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The Jackets were competing in the Tyson Center, which is set to host the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

Linn, a junior from Marietta, Ga., finished the 3,000m race in ninth place with a time of 9:54.50. Junior Nisha Kurian crossed the line in 12th place with a time of 9:58.47.

Hurricanes Close Out Competition at Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sophomore Viktoria Andonova's fourth-place finish in the high jump highlighted the second and final day of competition for UM women's track and field team Saturday at the Tyson Invitational.

Andonova's mark of 1.81 meters, her third school-record breaking and third NCAA provisional jump of the season, was just 0.03 meters shy automatically qualifying for the NCAA championships.

Leggett Leads UM on Second Day of ISU Classic

AMES, Iowa - Junior Lance Leggett finished second in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles to highlight the second day of competition for the UM men's track and field team Saturday at the Iowa State Classic.

Leggett, who qualified for the finals with a fifth-place time of 7.98 in the semifinals, earned an NCAA provisional spot with a time of 7.89 in Saturday's finals.

Virginia Tech Women's track captures Sykes-Sabok Challenge Cup

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Virginia Tech track and field team continued its all-around success at Penn State's Sykes-Sabok Challenge Cup on Saturday, as the women held on to take first place, and the men climbed up to finish fifth following a tenth-place showing on Friday.

Seven more NCAA provisional marks were recorded to give Tech a total of 15 for the weekend, while Saturday also saw the Hokies win four more individual events and set two more school records.
