GREENSBORO, N.C. — Georgia Tech senior Alphonso Jordan and Virginia Tech senior Queen Harrison were selected for this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week honors for the period ending February 7. Jordan is the second Yellow Jacket in as many weeks to garner the award, while Harrison—who broke two of her own school records over the weekend—is taking her second weekly accolade in three weeks.

Jordan won the long jump, came in second in the triple jump, and provisionally qualified for the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship in both events at the unscored Virginia Tech Elite Meet (Feb. 5-6). The Charlotte, N.C., native’s 24 feet, 11.25 inches in the long jump is the fourth best mark on the ACC performance list this season, while his leap of 52 feet, 6.75 inches in the triple jump tops the league’s charts.

Harrison, who already automatically qualified in the 60-meter hurdles and provisionally qualified in the 400-meter dash earlier this season, improved her marks at the Virginia Tech’ Elite Meet. Harrison broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles by becoming the first Hokie to break eight seconds, clocking a 7.99 in the preliminary round, and a 7.96 in the finals to win the event. The Richmond, Va., native also broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash with a 53.54 showing, good for second place. Harrison closed out the meet by running the lead leg of the 4x400-meter relay and guided the team to a second-place finish in a time a 3:39.81, a provisional qualifying mark.

ACC Indoor Track and Field action continues this weekend with 10 of 12 teams in action. Just over two weeks remain on the schedule before the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship. The three-day meet will be hosted by Virginia Tech and run from February 25-25.
