Four Tigers Win Event Titles at Carolina Track & Field Invitational

Chapel Hill, NC - The Clemson men's track & field team claimed four event titles on Saturday at the Carolina Invitational, which was held at the Eddie Smith Field House on the UNC campus. Travis Padgett claimed the 60m dash, Jay Lumpkins won the 5000m, Adam Linkenauger topped the high jump, and Chris Spear was victorious in the pole vault.

Padgett captured the 60m final after posting another NCAA provisional qualifying mark at 6.74 seconds. He was joined in the finals by teammates Corey Brown, who finished fourth (6.84), and by C.J. Spiller, who crossed the line in seventh (6.90). It marked the first action of the season for the Lake Butler, FL, native, who was a freshman All-American in football.

New Balance Invite

Kloss, Felnagle Continue Winning Ways for Tar Heels

NEW YORK --- The North Carolina women's track and field team, harnessing a wave of momentum from Friday's impressive win in the distance medley relay, picked up right where it left off Saturday at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. And, again, the main noisemakers were members of that DMR team as sophomore Brie Felnagle and senior Georgia Kloss each added individual event wins to their weekend title haul.

Georgia Kloss posted the fastest time in the 800 meters run this year in the ACC in claiming the win. Her 2:07.07 time provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championships.

North Carolina's Owens Smashes School Record

In school record-setting fashion, senior Nick Owens hurled a 72-2 1/2 toss in the men's weight throw at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational held at the Armory Track this weekend to take the event title. The massive toss is the second-best effort in the nation this year and smashes the previous school record of 71-8 held by Sal Gigante.

With his throw, Owens became the first athlete in UNC history to top 72 feet - and 22 meters - in the event. Additionally, the mark set both meet and facility records and gave Owens his first win in 2007.

NC State Track Runs Well at New Balance Invite

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State track and field squads concluded action this weekend, with athletes competing at both the New Balance Invite in New York, and other at the Carolina Invite in Chapel Hill.

At the New Balance Invite on the men's side, the Pack came away with a NCAA provisional time in the 3,000 meters, and just missed out on a second in that event and also one in the mile. Wesley Smith recorded a NCAA provisional time in the 3,000 meters, as he was ninth with a time of 8:02.71. John Crew just missed out by a little over one second, as his time of 8:07.52 was 14th.

Duke Men's And Women's 4x800 Relay Teams Succeed At Armory Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Duke Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field team finished up the weekend in New York on Saturday in the second day of the Armory Collegiate Invitational. A complete list of results for the weekend can be found at www.armorytrack.com.

Women's: Junior Lara Jones continued her success this season in the pole vault. The native of Seattle, Wash., hit a height of 12'-3.50," good for her second best mark of the season and fifth place at the meet. Jones has qualified for ECAC standards in all four meets she has competed in this year.

Florida State Track And Field Closes Out Competition At New Balance Invite

Florida State track and field closes out the New Balance Invite on Saturday night with more provisional qualifiers and a few personal bests. Greg Bolden (Morrow, GA) holds onto his title of fastest 60m runner in the nation while Ricardo Chambers (Palm Beach County, FL) becomes the fastest 400m runner.

"The point of this meet for us was to continue that march to nationals," Coach Bob Braman said. "So we did a lot of that in the 60m on Friday by getting the three guys qualified for nationals. That was big."

Wake Forest's Bingham, Sikes Break School Records at New Balance Collegiate Invitational

Wake Forest junior Michael Bingham and senior Michelle Sikes broke school records in their respective events on Satuday to highlight the second and final day of action from the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y.

Bingham ran a time of 46.69 in the finals of the 400-meter dash to break teammate Eric Seely's previous indoor record of 47.43 set last season. Bingham's time was good for third overall at the meet and was also an NCAA provisionally-qualifying mark.

Foerster Runs Second-Fastest Indoor 3000m in Virginia History

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Jan Foerster (Berlin, Germany) ran an 8:02.54 over 3000m today at the New Balance Invitational and qualified provisionally for the NCAA meet. His time moves him up to the No. 2 slot all-time in Virginia history and he is just eight seconds behind the school record of 7:54.90 set by Kris Herdt in 1987, giving him the fastest time in 20 years.

Foester's teammates in the 3K also fared well, as Andy Biladeau (Lutz, Fla.) finished eighth in the College Division, running a personal best 8:15.81. Alex Tatu (Chester, Va.) won his heat in 8:18.80, while teammate Andrew Jesien (Bethesda, Md.) , running in the first heat, just nipped Tatu in the final standings with his 8:18.53. All four men ran times that rank in the top-10 in the ACC this year. Janine Ricci's (Maple Glen, Pa.) 9:57.83 is also a top-10 mark in the ACC and is her personal best mark.

Berger, Matyus Highlight Weekend for Terp Track

NEW YORK - Freshman Erin Matyus won her heat and finished third overall in the women's mile and Dominic Berger made a Friday night appearance in the 100th Annual Millrose Games at historic Madison Square Garden to highlight University of Maryland indoor track and field performances this weekend.

Matyus ran 5:00.49 in the women's mile at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory Track to post the best mark of the season by a Terrapin performer in that event. Her time was a season-best by five seconds and qualified her for the ECAC Indoor Championships coming up next month.
