Jan. 20, 2007 Clemson Invitational Men: Women: Clemson Men's Track & Field Claims Clemson Invitational Saturday The men's track & field team won the Clemson Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers totaled 136 points and finished ahead of second-place Auburn, who had 83.5 points. Wake Forest was third with 80 points. Travis Padgett, Mitch Greeley, and Jason Bell each posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks and also won their respective events Saturday. Travis Padgett claimed the 60m showdown over freshman Jacoby Ford. The Shelby, NC native ran a 6.68, which was a personal best, to win over Ford's time of 6.71. Both times were NCAA provisional qualifying marks. In the 60m hurdles, Andrew Porter turned in the 12th-best time at 8.69. Lady Tigers Finish Fourth at Clemson Invitational The Lady Tiger track & field team finished fourth at the Clemson Invitational on Saturday at the school's indoor facility. Clemson finished with 78 points. North Carolina won the meet with 124 points, while Charlotte (107) was runner-up and Miami (93) finished in third place. Ra'Sheena Parker placed eighth in the 60m finals with a time of 7.67, while Kristine Scott had the 15th-best time of the afternoon at 7.82. Polly Hardy was fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.67, while Krystal Barringer was seventh place (8.82). In the 200m dash, Scott placed sixth with a time of 25.44, while Parker was ninth in 25.52 seconds. Georgia Tech Men Finish Fifth; Women Close in Eleventh at Clemson Invitational CLEMSON, S.C. - Freshman Juan Cave finished first in the men's high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 11 ¾ inches leading the Georgia Tech men's and women's track and field teams at the Clemson Invitational this weekend. The men's team finished in fifth place and the women placed eleventh at the two-day event. Junior Jerome Miller placed second in the men's high jump with a height of 6 feet, 11 ¾ inches. He reached the same height as Cave but lost the tie-breaker. Senior James Lemons finished third in the men's long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 9 inches. Lemons also placed second in the men's triple jump with a mark of 50 feet. Miami Finishes Second Overall at Clemson Invitational CLEMSON, S.C. - The University of Miami women's track and field team tallied four first-place finishes Saturday to finish second in the overall point standings on the final day of competition at the Clemson Invitational. Highlighting Saturday's performances was sophomore Ena Leufroy who took first in the 800-meters with a time of 2:14:76 and anchored the UM 4x400 team, also consisting of seniors Danielle Bailey and Ginou Etienne and sophomore Krista Simkins, which placed first with a time of 3:45:03. Tar Heel Women Take Clemson Invitational, Men 4th Riding first-place finishes in the pole vault and the 3,000 meters, the North Carolina women distanced themselves from the field at the Clemson Invitational Saturday, claiming the team title with a 124-point total. Though the Tar Heel men dropped from their third-place standing after the first day of competition, strong performances from a cadre of athletes helped them compile 67 points on their way to a fourth-place finish overall. Sophomore Brie Felnagle and freshman Abby Kimball led the way for the Carolina women Saturday as the day's lone event winners. They joined sophomore Morgan Stengel, who won the women's 5,000 meters on Friday. Felnagle easily took the women's 3,000 meters in 19:15.01 - a full 45 seconds ahead of her closest competitor. NC State Track Competes at Clemson Invite Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State track and field teams were in action this weekend at the Clemson Invitational. The Wolfpack sent its sprinters, throwers and jumpers to compete in the second meet of the outdoor season. For the second straight week, Mitchell Pope brought home a first place finish in the throws along with a NCAA provisional mark. Pope won the shot put, with a toss of 62'03.25". Chris Crawford placed fifth in the shot put (53'00.75") and Jason Jones was sixth (48'07.50"). Crawford was also fourth in the weight throw, with a mark of 60'05.75". Kent Dickens was 11th in the weight throw (44'10.25"), while Jones was 12th (44'08.75"). Wake Forest Men Finish Third, Women Eighth at Clemson Invitational The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams were in Clemson, S.C., on Saturday for day two of the Clemson Invitational. The men's team finished third overall behind victories from Michael Bingham, Brad Wharton, Robert Gielow and the 4x400m relay team. The women's team finished eighth. Bingham claimed the 400m title with an NCAA provisionally-qualifying time of 47.54. It was the fastest time in the ACC this season. Wharton won the mile run with a time of 4:06.98, a new facility record. Also scoring for the Deacs was Mark Russell, who finished sixth in a time of 4:17.44. Maryland Invitational Maryland Freshmen Strong at Terrapin Invitational LANDOVER, Md. - Freshmen Lindsay Ritchings and Jason Allen continued their strong debuts to their first collegiate indoor track and field seasons by winning their second competitions in as many weeks on Saturday at the Terrapin Invitational, held at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex. Ritchings finished in 5:00.67 in the women's mile to beat Andrea Rovegno of Loyola by nearly two seconds. Ritchings' time qualified her for the ECAC meet in early march and followed her win last week at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Maryland senior Laurel Jefferson was third in 5:07.19. Virginia's Meggie Schuelke Wins Second Consecutive High Jump Competition at Maryland Invitational Virginia student-athlete Meggie Schuelke won her second consecutive high jump competition with a leap of 5' 8.75" at the Maryland Invitational in Landover, Md. today (Jan. 20). It is the second consecutive title for Schuelke, who also won her opener last weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Teammate Yemi Ayeni won the shot put competition, leading a 1-3-6 for Virginia. Jeff McClurg hit a personal best 15' 3" in the pole vault to edge teammate David Lewis for runner-up honors; Lewis also vaulted 15' 3" to take third overall. Kathryn Pettine helped the women keep pace with the men in the pole vault as she vaulted 11' 5.75" to also earn runner-up honors while teammate Katie Darraugh took fourth overall with her 10' 10". Bianca Debartolo was the runner-up in the long jump with her 18' 1". Rod McCravy Memorial Virginia Tech Track records continue to fall LEXINGTON, Ky. - The indoor track and field season is just three meets old, and the Virginia Tech Hokies have already shot down 10 school records after four more fell Saturday at the University of Kentucky's Rod McCravy Memorial. Newcomer Justin Clickett, who threw an unofficial school record in the shot put while unattached back in December, made it official on Saturday with a first-place toss of 19.03m (62'5.25"). The NCAA provisional mark breaks Ryan Norwood's throw of 18.74m (61'5.75") from 2005. Pole Vault Summit Blue Devil Vaulters Compete At Pole Vault Summit In Reno RENO, Nev. -- Four Duke pole vaulters made the trip west this weekend to compete in the Reno Pole Vault Summit. Junior Lara Jones competed on the women's side, and senior Jonathan Fay, junior Tyler Clarke and junior Ian Cassidy vaulted for the men. Women's: Jones hit 12'-3.5" at the competition, which is an ECAC qualifying time. The ECAC indoor championships will be held March 3-4 in Boston, Mass. Jones had already qualified with her vault last week at Virginia Tech of 12'-7.5". Men's: Cassidy turned in the best performance for Duke at the summit with a vault of 15'-11.0". It was his first competition of the season, and earned him a spot at the IC4A championships. IC4A's are the men's equivalent of the ECAC's, and will also be held March 3-4 in Boston. Fay qualified for the IC4A's last weekend with a mark of 15'-11" in Blacksburg, Va., and hit 15'-3.0" in Reno. Clarke vaulted to 14'-1.25" at the Pole Vault Summit.
