Georgia Tech's Miller, Clemson's Sinkler and Ford Share ACC Indoor Track & Field Weekly Honors
Jan. 13, 2009 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Clemson's April Sinkler has been chosen as the first Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week, while Georgia Tech's Jerome Miller and Clemson's Jacoby Ford have been named Co-Performers of the Week on the men's side. Sinkler, a sophomore from Stafford, Va. recorded a pair of first place finishes over the weekend at the season-opening Clemson Invitational to claim the first weekly honor of her career. She took first place in the high jump with a mark of 5'10." Sinkler also won the long jump with a leap of 20'0.5." Each mark was an NCAA provisional qualifying distance. Her high jump performance broke an 11-year old school record. Georgia Tech's Miller broke the Georgia Tech indoor high jump record on Saturday to claim his first career Performer of the Week Honor. The Stafford, Va. native posted an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 7'4.25" to punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships to open his senior season. He broke the school record by 1.25 inches and won the event by four inches.
Clemson's Ford, a junior from Royal Palm Beach, Fla., made the transition from football to the track with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 6.59 seconds in the 60m dash. The time is Ford's second fastest in his career seven one-hundredths of a second off his ACC record time of 6.52 seconds, set in 2007.
