Wake Forest's LaRue and Clemson's Rollins Named ACC Indoor Track and Field Performers of the Week
Jan. 12, 2010
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Wake Forest senior Brent LaRue and Clemson freshman were named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week, respectively, for the week ending January 11. The pair is garnering the first weekly honor of the season. LaRue helped Wake Forest open the 2010 campaign with a record-breaking performance at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., while Rollins competed at the Clemson Invitational in an unscored meet. LaRue, an All-American on the indoor track in 2009, broke the Wake Forest school record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 16-0.75 at the Tar Heel Invitational where the Demon Deacons placed sixth. He set the previous mark of 15-9.00 last season. Despite tying for the highest mark in the 11-person field, LaRue placed second, as his mark was accomplished in more attempts. The Kernersville, N.C., native also won the 60-meter hurdlers out of a field of 22. He won his preliminary heat in a time of 8.18, then bested that mark with an 8.14 clocking in the finals.
