![]() Men's Track and Field Opens Indoor Season with 73-53 Victory over Harvard

Cambridge, Mass. - The Boston College men's track team kicked off its indoor season with an 75-63 win over the Harvard Crimson. The meet took place at Harvard's Gordon Track. Boston College claimed first place in 10 of 16 events during Saturday's competition. Freshman Brendan Gaffney and Patrick Mellea each claimed first place in two events, as Gaffney captured the 200 and 400-meter events with times of 23:43 and 50.47. Mellea finished first in the one-mile, crossing in 4:14.22 and the 1,000-meter, which he ran in 2:28.28. The Eagles went 1-4 in the one-mile race with Mellea, and sophomores Timothy Ritchie, Brendan Collins and James LaGreca finishing the race consecutively. Boston College also swept the 800 and 1,000-meter events. Senior Dan LaFave won the 800 with a time of 1:55.32, while junior Frank DiVittorio, freshman Ryan Diorio and sophomore James Slattery finished second through fourth, respectively. The Eagles captured 1-3 in the 1,000-meter race with Mellea placing first, junior Connor Farrell and senior Jim Unis finishing in the top three.
Sophomore Corey Phelps finished first in the 60-meter dash with a best time of 7.25. Classmate Mike Akins placed second in the 500-meter run, while sophomore Sebastian Mansson was third. Sophomore David Emerson captured the 5,000-meter race, crossing in 15:05.95, while senior Mark Alizzi finished second with a time of 15:08.87. Boston College won the high jump event as senior Louis Canelli led all with a 2.0-meter leap. Boston College "A" also won the 4x800-meter relay with a collective time of 7:58.92. |
