CARSON, Calif. - Former women's track and field standout Chaunte Howard finished second in the women's high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 2 ¾ inches, at the USA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships late Thursday night. With her second-place finish, Howard qualifies for the IAAF World Championships August 6-14, in Helsinki, Finland.

Howard, a native of Riverside, Calif., turned professional last week and represents Team Nike. She finished runner-up in the high jump at the 2005 Outdoor NCAA Championships and finished her Georgia Tech career with three national titles (2 indoor, 1 outdoor).

Redshirt freshman Andy Powlen tallied a fifth-place finish in the men's shot put with a mark of 60 feet, ½ inch, at the USA Junior National Championships.

Senior Montrell Person clocked a time of 13.96 in round one of the men's 110-meter high hurdles to finish sixth in his heat. The Merriville, Ind., native failed to qualify for the semifinals.

Former men's track standout David Krummenacker (1994, '96-98) ran a time of 1:50.08 in the men's 800 meters to advance to the semifinals on Friday at 10:30 p.m. ET.
