GAINSVILLE, Fla. --- Adam Montague claimed the javelin crown and Brie Felnagle won the women's 1,500 meters to lead the way for the University of North Carolina track and field teams Saturday at the NCAA East Regional at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track on the campus of the University of Florida.

On his fourth attempt, Montague launched a career-best 242-4 effort to move to second on UNC's all-time list and set the nation's best mark this year. As well, Justin Ryncavage posted a 238-4 toss on his first throw in finishing second as the No. 13 Carolina men totaled 18 points in dominating the event. Montague narrowly missed Ryncavage's school-record 243-4 heave, which he set last year in winning the national championship.

For the UNC women, Felnagle crossed the line in 4:19.48 to claim the event win in the 1,500, edging Florida State's Susan Kuijken by more than two seconds. Felnagle's crown made it three regional titles for the Tar Heels on the weekend, as she joined Montague and Nick Owens, who won the men's hammer throw on Friday, as event champions.

Also qualifying for the NCAA Championships with a top-five finish was Georgia Kloss, who turned in a runner-up performance in the 800 meters for the Tar Heel women, recording a 2:06.10 time.

The Carolina men also received points from Reggie Berry, who placed seventh in the men's 400-meter hurdles, running 51.10.

Meanwhile, Rhian Jenks put up a season-best 12-6 clearance in finishing seventh for the UNC women in the pole vault.

The men tallied 30 points to finish in fifth place. Florida State (91) easily won the meet, finishing 35 points ahead of runner-up Florida.

The Carolina women finished the meet with 24 points, good for 11th place in the region, which is made up of schools in every state on the East Coast. Virginia Tech (89) claimed the team title.

The official list of NCAA qualifiers, including at-large selections, will be announced Tuesday, while the meet begins Wednesday, June 6.
