Four Tar Heels Reach Provisional Standard at UNC Relays

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - In North Carolina's final tuneup before the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships the Tar Heels picked up four more provisional marks on Saturday at the Dick Taylor UNC Relays. The high jumping duo of Patience Coleman and Donte Nall both recorded another provisional mark. The Eddie Smith Field House will serve as host of the 2008 ACC Indoor Championships next week from Thursday, Feb. 28 - Saturday March 1.

On the men's side, Kelvin Hardesty finished second in the 60-meter dash as he ran a 7.00 in the prelims and finished the final in 7.02 for the second-place showing. Carolina earned two more top five finishes in the 200 as Charles Cox took the top spot in a time of 22.03, just ahead of teammate Ian Williamson who finished third with a time of 22.65.


Hokie Throwers Take Charge at Virginia Tech Challenge

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Hokies put together many strong performances in the field events and on the track at the Virginia Tech Challenge Saturday in Rector Field House as part of their final preparation for next week's Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships.

The No. 11 Tech women's team leaned on several solid performances throughout the day in the field events. Ciera Ayangbile and Erika Schroeder took the first two spots in the women's shot put. Ayangbile claimed the event title with a mark of 50'4.75" (15.36m), while Schroeder earned runner-up honors with a 49'1" (14.96m) mark.

Kelly Phillips earned third place in the women's pole vault with a height of 13'2.5 (4.03m), while Elise Birnbaum followed in fourth by clearing a personal-best height of 12'9.5" (3.90m). Diana Sciambi tied for ninth place at a personal-best height of 11'7.75" (3.55m). Erin Mahony competed as an unattached athlete and finished as the runner-up with a 13'2.5" (4.03m).
