Florida State's Andy Hodgson and Virginia's Mei Christensen Named ACC Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week
Dec. 9, 2008 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State junior Andy Hodgson and Virginia junior Mei Christensen have been selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week. Hodgson set new league records in the 200 back and as a part of the 400 free relay. Christensen clocked in with new ACC records in the 100 and 200 back events. Each student-athlete earns their second weekly honor of the season this week. Hodgson, a native of Blackpool, England, swam in six total events at the USA Short Course National Championships held in Atlanta, Georgia last weekend to claim the league honor. In the 200 back, Hodgson finished third in a FSU and ACC record of 1:41.99. He also set a new school record in the 200 free, finishing in a tenth place time of 1:35.28. In his third individual event, Hodgson placed 13th in the 100 back in 48.30. Hodgson's other league record came as a part of the fourth-place 400 free relay team, which also set a new school record in 2:54.53. Hodgson's relay teams also finished fourth in the 200 free relay (1:19.79) and 200 medley relay (1:28.42). All six times were NCAA consideration marks. Christensen is a native of Reston, Va. who claimed three individual wins and won two additional relay events at the UVA Invitational, held last weekend in Charlottesville. Christensen scored an NCAA Automatic qualification time in the 100 back with a league-and school-record time of 52.58. In the 200 back, Christensen finished first in an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:54.71 to set a new school and league record in the event. She also won the 50 free in 23.07. Her team in the 400 free relay set another school and ACC record in 3:18.61. Her relay teams scored NCAA "B" cut times in the 200 medley relay (1:40.25) and 400 medley relay (3:38.95).
Florida State will return to the pool on Jan. 6 against Boston College at 3 p.m. Virginia will return to competitive waters on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at Florida starting at 7 p.m.
