Florida State's Terry Horner and Marissa Harrington Earn ACC Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week Honors
Dec. 1, 2009
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State senior Terry Horner and freshman Marissa Harrington were picked as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, announced today. The duo is the second pair of Seminoles to win the weekly honors in as many weeks.
Despite the No. 20 Florida State men’s team’s (collegeswimming.com) 169-131 loss to fourth-ranked Florida (Nov. 24), Horner won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. The Orlando, Fla., native totaled 405.23 points in the one meter event, the top mark in the league this season, and racked up 398.33 points in the three-meter dive to win the event and rank fifth in the ACC. Both totals qualified for the Zone Diving Championships.
The No. 25 Florida State women’s team also lost to fifth-ranked Florida, 212-88, but Harrington finished the 1,000-yard freestyle in a 2009-10 league-best 9:50.77 to place second. The Bradenton, Fla., native also finished seventh in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. One week prior, Harrington recorded the third-best 1,650-yard freestyle time in the ACC this season with a national “B” cut qualifying time of 16:36.90 at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Florida State is back in action on Thursday, January 14 in a dual meet against ACC-foe Virginia at Morcom Aquatics Center in Tallahassee, Fla. The time for that match has not been determined.
