Maryland's Jen Vogel and North Carolina's Tyler Harris Named ACC Performers of the Week
Nov. 25, 2008 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland junior Jen Vogel and North Carolina sophomore Tyler Harris have been selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week. Vogel picked up her first career conference recognition, while Harris earns his third career performer of the week honor and second of this season. Vogel won two individual events and also placed on four winning relay teams for the Terrapins at the Terrapin Cup in College Park, Md. Vogels took top honors in the 100 fly (53.86) and the 200 fly (1:57.72) in NCAA consideration times for both. The winning time in the 200 fly shattered the school and pool records. Vogel also swam in four of the Terps first-place relays to lead Maryland to the 2008 Terrapin Cup Championship. Harris scored three individual first place finishes at the Gamecock Invitational as North Carolina took first place out of six teams. In the 200 individual medley, Harris finished in an NCAA consideration time of 1:46.54 and broke an 18-year old record by over three-quarters of a second. He touched the wall for first place in the 400 individual medley with an NCAA automatic qualification time of 3:44.00 to set a new career best and broke his own school record. Harris also clocked in for a win in the 200 breaststroke (1:58.33) and a fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:52.50). In the two distance relays, North Carolina finished fourth in the 400 medley relay and 2nd in the 800 free relay.
Maryland will face Navy on December 9 before breaking for the rest of the semester. North Carolina has concluded the fall portion of their schedule and will resume the season on January 5th against Penn State at the Tar Heel winter training camp in Naples, Fla.
