Virginia's Mei Christensen and Scot Robison Named ACC Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week
Nov. 18, 2008 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia's Mei Christensen and Scot Robison have been selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week. Christensen is a junior backstroker from Reston, Va. while Robison is a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C. This is Christensen's first career weekly honor for the two-time All-ACC finisher. Last week the Cavalier junior scored two individual wins and a pair of relay wins as Virginia downed Florida State and Penn State. Christensen won the 100 back in 54.59 and took first place in the 200 back in an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:56.42. She also swam the backstroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay (1:32.74) and 400 medley relay (3:40.89). Her time in the 200 back also broke Virginia's Aquatic and Fitness Center pool record which was previously held by two-time ACC Swimmer of the Year Brielle White. Robison, an All-ACC finisher last year, earned his second Performer of the Week honor with three individual wins and a pair of relay victories. He took first place in the 50 free (20.55), 100 free (44.26) and the 100 fly (48.76) en route to Virginia's wins over Florida State and Penn State. He also swam in the winning 200 free relay (1:22.17) and 400 medley relay (3:17.79) for the Cavaliers.
Virginia's women's team improves to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the league while the men's team improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the ACC this season. The Cavaliers will now break for Thanksgiving and gear up for the UVA Invite which runs Dec. 4, 5 and 6 in Charlottesville. The meet will consist of six sessions over three days with prelims starting at 10:30 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m.
