ACC Announces Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week for November 9
Nov. 9, 2010 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech sophomore Brandon Makinson set two personal bests and has been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming & Diving Men's co-Performer of the Week along with North Carolina senior Tommy Wyher, who posted four NCAA B qualifying times. Clemson sophomore Tori Cervone registered three first-place finishes and has been named the Women's Performer of the Week.
Wyher helped 15th-ranked North Carolina defeat 14th-ranked Minnesota 165-135, lifting the Tar Heels to their first dual meet win over the Golden Gophers since November 2000. The New Port Richey, Fla., native posted season best times in the 100 back (48.26) and 100 fly (48.15), both NCAA "B" times, and times which now rank him third nationally on CollegeSwimming.com's list in each event. He anchored the 400 free relay in the meet's Cervone claimed individual titles in three events as Clemson defeated Georgia Tech in its conference opener, 192-108. It marked the sixth-straight win in the series for the Tiger women's team. Cervone posted times of 1:52.54 in the 200 free, 2:03.62 in the 200 back, and 2:08.94 in the 200 IM. Her victory helped the Tigers complete a sweep of the backstroke events. The sophomore from Closter, N.J., also anchored the winning 400 free relay team, registering a 52.95 split.
