Virginia's Liz Shaw and North Carolina's Tyler Harris Named ACC Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week
Nov. 4, 2008 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia Liz Shaw and North Carolina's Tyler Harris have been selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week. The products of Richmond, Va. each win their second career Performer of the Week honor. A sophomore from Richmond, Va., Shaw helped Virginia to a 188-110 win over rival Virginia Tech last week. She broke a seven year old pool record in the 200 fly to take first place in 1:57.53. It was her first NCAA "B" qualifying time in the event this year. Shaw also took first place in the 100 fly (54.44) and swam in the first-place 200 medley relay (1:41.95). Virginia improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the ACC. Harris, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., had a dynamite performance in Carolina's loss to No. 9 ranked Minnesota last weekend. He won three individual events, anchored the second-place 800 free relay team and took fourth in the 200 fly. Harris won the 400 IM by five seconds in an NCAA "B" cut time of 3:51.17. He also took victories in the 200 breast (2:01.72) and 200 IM (1:50.40.). North Carolina fell 220-146 to Minnesota in the meet.
Virginia (3-0, 2-0) will visit Kentucky on Friday at 3:30 p.m. for their second non-conference match against the SEC this season. North Carolina (1-2) will take to the road to open their ACC schedule this weekend against Maryland and George Mason. The tri-meet begins on Saturday afternoon at Noon.
