Duke's Nick McCrory and North Carolina's Laura Moriarty Earn ACC Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke freshman Nick McCrory and  were selected as this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, announced today. McCrory helped the Blue Devils to a win over conference foe Georgia Tech (Oct. 30) with two first-place finishes, while Moriarty won two events and recorded another top-three time at the Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 30).

McCrory won both the one-meter and three-meter dives in Duke’s 171.5-128.5 win over the Yellow Jackets. His 390.75 score in the one-meter dive is the second-best time in the ACC this season, while his 431.50 points in the three meter dive not only rank first in the league, but is also a new Duke record. The Chapel Hill, N.C. native’s victories in each event kept him undefeated for the young 2009-10 season.

North Carolina sophomore Laura MoriartyMoriarty posted wins in the 200-meter individual medley (2:05.24) and the 400-meter IM (4:22.41) at the Tar Heel Invitational, in which North Carolina earned a 165-128 win over Georgia Tech. The Methuen, Mass. native also placed second in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 56.55.

North Carolina will return to action on Friday, November 6 when the Tar Heels entertain Maryland in an ACC dual meet at Koury Natatorium at 3 p.m., while Duke will travel to Blacksburg, Va. on Saturday, November 7 to take on Virginia Tech and Miami in conference matchups at War Memorial Pool at 12 p.m.
