Duke, North Carolina Split First Weekly Swimming Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke junior Ben Hwang has been named the ACC Men’s Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday. North Carolina sophomore Stephanie Peacock and Duke sophomore Christine Wixted have been named ACC Women’s Swimming & Diving Co-Performers of the Week.
Hwang notched two solo victories in the 50 free and 100 free in a 177.5-121.5 win over Maryland. The Cerritos, Calif. native swam the 50 free in 19.84 which qualified as an NCAA ‘B’ cut time and ranks as the top time in the nation so far this season.
Peacock had a pair of NCAA ‘B’ qualifying times against defending NCAA runner-up Georgia in Saturday’s dual meet. She went 1:47.71 in the 200-yard freestyle, a new regular-season personal best. The Cape Coral, Fla. native set another dual-meet career low time in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with her second ‘B’ qualifier of 4:41.33. North Carolina beat Georgia Tech 187.5-100.5 on Oct. 21 and fell to Georgia 177-112 on Oct. 22.
Wixted picked up two individual wins, both ‘B’ qualifiers, in Duke’s win over Maryland. She finished the 100 breast in first with a time of 1:02.26 and the 200 breast in a time of 2:14.92. The Greenwood Village, Colo. native also finished second in the 200 IM and her 200 medley relay team, on which she swam the backstroke leg in 28.53, finished in second with a time of 1:43.26.
