North Carolina Closes Out Swimming Recruiting Efforts
July 2, 2006 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina swimming and diving program has completed its 2005-06 recruiting effort announcing Sunday that three additional swimmers will join the program this fall. Josh Correll of Charlotte, N.C. and Ashley Howard of Durham, N.C. will join the Tar Heels as recruited student-athletes. Beth Miller of Charlotte, N.C. will join the squad as a walk-on this fall. Correll is a graduate of Providence High School in Charlotte. He swims for coach Dave Gibson at Mecklenburg Aquatic Club. Correll is primarily a breaststroker and backstroker. His career best times are 56.46 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:05.52 in the 200. In the backstroke, he has clocked 52.91 at 100 yards and 1:52.76 at 200 yards. He has career bests of 1:58.48 in the 200 IM and 4:06.83 in the 400 IM. Howard has graduated from Riverside High and she participates in club swimming for the Tar Heel Aquatic Team coached by Eric Steidinger. She is a backstroker and freestyler. Her short course bests in the back are 58.13 and 2:01.86. Long course she went 1:06.21 at the U.S. Open and 2:19.69 at nationals. Her freestyle times are 24.29 at 50, 52.03 at 100, 1:51.80 at 200, 5:00.99 at 500, 10:19.47 at 1000 and 17:15.21 at 1650 yards. She has recorded a career best 4:30.80 in the 400 IM.
