Katie Ness was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3

Duke University's Johanna Bischof and Katie Ness were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 second team on Thursday. The academic all-district 3 teams, selected by CoSIDA, consist of 10 first team members and 11 members on the second team.

Bischof became Duke's first four-time all-region pick in field hockey this season, after leading the team with 18 assists. She also had nine goals, including five goals in five chances on penalty shots in 2004. She finished her career as the Duke all-time assists leader (63), while also ranking third with 137 career points and 10th with 37 career goals. The North Vancouver, B.C., native graduated in May with a degree in Biological Anthropology/Anatomy.

Ness, a rising senior, posted the second best time (2:02.07) in the 200 yard individual medley at the ACC Championships and the sixth best time in the 100 butterfly (55.12) and the 100 backstroke (56.61) this past season. Her performance in the 200 yard medley was an NCAA `B' standard. Ness holds records at Duke in the 100 & 200 backstroke, 100 fly, 200 individual medley, 200 free relay, 400 free relay and 400 medley relay. Ness, a Worthington, Ohio, native is an electrical engineering major.
