North Carolina (7-2, 6-1 ACC) finished atop the conference standings, just ahead of NC State (9-2, 6-2 ACC). Defending champion Virginia (5-3, 3-1 ACC) is not only seeking its fifth consecutive ACC Men’s Swimming & Diving title, but is also looking to claim its 13th in the last 14 years and 15th overall. North Carolina has won at least a share of 17 championships, and NC State has won the most overall with 24 titles.
Virginia Tech will attempt to become the 23rd host institution to win the championship, which was accomplished most recently by Virginia in 2004. The Hokies earned an early head start after sweeping the three diving competitions last week. Junior Logan Shinholser won the one-meter and three-meter titles and finished second in the platform behind sophomore teammate Ryan Hawkins. Shinholser earned Men’s Most Valuable Diver honors for his performance.
