![]() Miami's Derek Starks Takes Gold in Men's One-Meter Dive at ACC Swimming and Diving Championships

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Miami junior Derek Starks picked up his second medal of the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday, as he turned in a score of 354.10 to win gold in the one-meter dive. Both men's and women's diving events are being conducted at the ACC Women's Championships, which began Wednesday at the University of Maryland's Campus Recreation Center Natatorium in College Park, Md. Starks, last year's silver medalist in the one-meter at the ACC meet, earned his first league title with his effort on Friday. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native won his first medal of the 2006 meet on Thursday, taking silver in the three-meter dive. North Carolina sophomore Ryan Funderburk improved one spot from his Thursday showing on the boards, as he posted a score of 345.85 to earn the silver medal in the one-meter dive on Friday. The Summerfield, N.C., native took bronze in the three-meter on Thursday. Completing the three-man medal sweep was Thursday's gold medal winner on the three-meter, Georgia Tech's Evan Stowers. The sophomore from Independence, Ky., amassed a total of 335.95 points to earn the bronze medal in Friday's one-meter dive. Rounding out the rest of the finalist field were North Carolina's Jon Fox in fourth place with 325.20 points, Florida State's Alex Tilbrook in fifth (322.55), Georgia Tech's Tony Burkhardt in sixth (302.65), Virginia's Andrew Barber in seventh (293.30) and Florida State's Daniel Frebel in eighth (292.55). The rest of the Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will take place at the Campus Recreation Center Natatorium from Feb. 22-25. -ACC-
