North Carolina's Flannery and Pesacreta Tabbed ACC Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina sophomore Jim Flannery and freshman were selected as Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week for the period ending February 7, announced today. Flannery won four individual events over the weekend, while Pesacreta clocked league top-10 times in four different events. In No. 14 North Carolina’s (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) 187-106 victory over NC State (Feb. 5), Flannery swam to first place finishes in the 100-yard (49.04) and 200-yard (1:47.54) backstrokes. Following Friday evening’s victory, the Bronxville, N.Y, native competed with the Tar Heels at the Triangle College Cup where he again won both the 100-yard (48.92) and 200-yard (1:47.49) backstrokes, hitting a national qualifying “B” cut in the 100-yard race, and clocking the fourth fastest times in the ACC this season in each event.
One week remains on the schedule before league teams descend to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the 2010 Women’s Swimming and Diving and Men’s Diving Championships, hosted by North Carolina. Platform diving will be held at Duke University. Action from Koury Natatorium will run from February 17-20. The Men’s Swimming Championship will also be hosted by North Carolina and run from February 24-27.
