Georgia Tech's Krimm, North Carolina's Kane and James Named ACC Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week
Feb. 3, 2009 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech diver Hannah Krimm as well as North Carolina swimmers Rebecca Kane and Jeff James have been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week. Krimm won both diving events over the weekend for the Yellow Jackets while the Tar Heel duo powered their teams to victories over Duke. Krim, a junior native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, earned ACC Women's Swimming and Diving Co-Performer of the Week honors for the first time this season. She led the Georgia Tech diving squad with first place finishes on both boards against Emory University over the weekend. Krimm scored 348.97 on the 3-meter board which is only three points shy of the school record. She also won the 1-meter with a score of 292.80. Kane, a Toms River, N.J. native, also earned ACC Women's Swimming and Diving Co-Performer of the Week honors this week. The sophomore's third honor of the season came as she won two individual events in North Carolina's 35th consecutive women's victory over Duke in the pool. She won the 100 free (50.65) and 200 free (1:49.64) and swam the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.52) which also finished first. Her split, 23.01 seconds was the fastest of the race. James, a junior from Chapel Hill, N.C. , took a pair of individual wins en route to ACC Men's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week honors. He clocked in with a time of 20.72 in the 50 free to finish first. He also won the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:51.42. James added a second place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:31.67) which included an anchor leg split of 20.28 seconds to lift the Tar Heels to their 72nd consecutive men's victory over Duke.
North Carolina will close out the regular season on Tuesday night at NC State starting at 5 p.m. Georgia Tech will now focus on the ACC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships which open on February 18 in College Park, Md.
