Florida State's Young and North Carolina's Kane Earn ACC Swimming Performer of the Week Honors
Jan. 13, 2009 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State redshirt senior Kyle Young and North Carolina sophomore Rebecca Kane have been selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week. Young won the 1,000 and 500 Free against LSU while Kane was victorious in three events against Clemson. The Seminole's Young, an Oviedo, Fla. native, was one of two multi-event winners in FSU's 141-159 loss to LSU last week. The Florida State distance swimmer took first place in the 1,000 free in 9:19.94 and top honors in the 500 free with a time of 4:30.92. Kane, a Toms River, N.J. native, took wins in the 50 free (23.66) and 100 free (50.96) to help the Tar Heels to a 174-124 win over Clemson to run North Carolina's win streak to three meets. She swam the freestyle leg of the 200 medley relay which won in 1:44.02. She also swam the anchor leg of the exhibitioned 400 free relay team which swam the top time of 3:25.85.
Florida State will host Clemson on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. while the North Carolina women's squad will travel to New Brunswick, N.J. to compete in the Swimming World Shootout on Friday and Saturday.
