Duke's Nick Garvy and Maryland's Ginny Glover Earn ACC Swimming and Diving Weekly Honors
Jan. 5, 2010 GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke junior Nick Garvy and Maryland sophomore Ginny Glover have been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, announced today. Garvy aided the Blue Devil men’s team to a second place showing at the Orange Bowl Classic (Jan. 2) in Key Largo, Fla., while Glover, who is taking home her second performer of the week honor of the 2009-10 season, guided Maryland to an ACC dual-meet victory over Miami (Jan. 2) in Coral Gables, Fla.
Glover won two individual events and helped two relay teams to first and second-place showings in Maryland’s 191-103 dual-meet victory against Miami, improving the Terrapins’ record to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the ACC. The Ellicott City, Md., native won both the 100-yard and 20-yard freestyle events with times of 52.48 and 1:51.79, respectively. Additionally, Glover swam the second leg of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team, which finished the race in a time of 1:37.78, and led off for the 200-yard medley relay group that clocked a 1:48.85, good for second place. The Terps return to the pool on Saturday, January 9 when they host Big East Conference opponent Rutgers at the Eppley Recreation Center at 1 p.m. Duke competes next on Saturday, January 16 at Southeastern Conference foe South Carolina at 2 p.m.
